Beacon Hill Residence
Concept Minimalist coastal. A paired back take on ‘contemporary coastal’.
Drawing inspiration from the coastal views, natural sunlight and lush surrounds, Bone Made was engaged to redefine this 1950’s retro style house and transform it into a light and airy, enticing family home. Our clients wanted the space to reflect their outdoorsy, beach lifestyle whilst feeling relaxed and uncluttered.
We began by selecting a neutral colour palette, which we would then enhance with a few subtle pops of black for boldness and a mix of soft and woven textures. Engineered oak floorboards replaced vintage carpet and tiling, immediately lifting the space and bringing warm tones. The entire space, including the original timber panelling in the entry, was given a lick of brightness with crisp white paint throughout.
In addition to the timber panelling, we salvaged the old brick fireplace in the living room. It was re-purposed and brought back to life with white v-groove panelling, reflecting the entry, and a charcoal stone slab for the hearth to create contrast and depth in the space.
To bring in the textural accents of the coast, we sourced sisal rugs for the floor, woven vases and a rattan arched floor lamp. Aged glass vases evoked the tumbled coloured glass found on the seashore and hold nature’s decorative treasures.
The overall feeling created is one of brightness and peace. The family now have a place to relax deeply, connected to both the expanses of coastline they love nearby and the lush greenery beyond their windows.
