The Peppercorn Residence was a privilege to re-design for our clients – an Irish couple with twins, and their fur baby, Honey. They engaged us with the vision of creating classic, opulent spaces for their family home. The transformation touched every room.

Their two-storey house already had a thoughtful sense of flow and plenty of natural light, so little change was required in terms of layout. As we moved through the initial consultations, we established that the desired aesthetic reflected classic, sophisticated boutique hotels. It was time to actualise a little bit of European luxury to elevate our client’s every day.

Firstly, a herringbone floor was laid, finished in rich chocolate and chestnut toned engineered oak. This was paired with decorative wainscoting panels added to the walls of the foyer, office and library, formal sitting room, staircase, hallways, and master bedroom. Immediately these elements created a foundation of traditional European style. Bespoke steel-frame arched doors brought a striking Art Deco elegance to the ground floor, lending visual fluidity and depth of contrast. Fresh, bright white paint lifted the walls, allowing the black detailing of the doors, balustrade and stairs, and the khaki green of the library nook cabinetry, to make their statement.

Arabescato Vagli marble displays soft grey and clean white tones and became a recurring element throughout the home. It adorns the fireplace in the sitting room, the benchtop of the library nook, the island, benches and splashback of the kitchen, and the vanity tops of the bathrooms, lending subtle tonal accents. In the kitchen, the marble provides a canvas of intricate patterning, harmonising with the reeded glass cabinet doors, and the charcoal grey of the island cabinetry. The arch motif was incorporated into the cabinets sweeping over the range, and a horizontal pendant light provides a delineating point of contrast.

The wainscoting panels, and pairing of neutral tones with rich, darker colours, continues in the master bedroom. A deep blue, curved window seat reflects the client’s fabric bedhead and frame. Refined wall lights in simple white and black tie into the overall simplicity of the space.

The bathrooms provide light-filled havens of self-care, with large windows letting the green of the garden in. Generous freestanding baths and spouts suggest old-world luxury. Highlights of colour include the deep grey for the master ensuite vanity, and lighter, soft blue-grey for the children’s bathroom – all promoting a sense of serenity. Silhouettes are softened with a reeded glass shower screen, continuing the hint of Art Deco detailing. Ceramic sconce lighting brings a warm earthiness, and the walls are softened with both mottled grey and the reflective texture of Moroccan zellige tiles. Each bathroom exudes a cloud-like calm.

The home now radiates simple elegance, born of a process of refinement. It’s curving stairs, doorways and chandelier create grandeur, immediately drawing you in as you enter the foyer. We hope our clients continue to enjoy their own slice of opulent sophistication, bringing the deepest of fulfillment whenever they return home.
